Captain Sammy Britt
Captain Sammy Britt started his career with the Jackson Police Dept. on August 8, 1964 as a Patrol Officer. After two years, he was assigned to the position of Traffic Officer. On September 1, 1970, he was promoted to Sergeant and then on July 16, 1973, he was promoted to Lieutenant all within the Traffic Division. In August 1989, the Traffic Division was disbanded, and Lieutenant Britt returned to the Patrol Division as a Staff Duty Lieutenant.
On May 5, 2008, he was promoted to Captain. In October of that same year, the Traffic Division was reactivated, and Captain Britt became the Traffic Division Commander.
Captain Britt supervises six sworn Traffic Division officers and one civilian employee, three sworn officers and two civilian employees in the Warrant Division, and two civilian downtown parking enforcement employees.
His position also encompasses liaison for the school crossing guards, the city sign department traffic signs, TN Correctional Services through City Court, and parade and escort requests.
Captain Britt is also involved in several volunteer organizations throughout the City of Jackson.
