Tennessee author William Gay, whose lyrical, evocative writing has been compared to the writings of literary greats William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy, will be at the library on Thursday, August 26, at 6:00 to read from his works and also to discuss the writing of short stories. The son of sharecroppers, Gay is a self-taught writer who was given the gift of a love of literature by a 7th grade teacher. The awards for the library's short story contest, co-sponsored by the West TN Healthcare Foundation, will be presented prior to his program. His novels, THE LONG HOME and PROVINCES OF NIGHT, and his collection of short stories, I HATE TO SEE THAT EVENING SUN GO DOWN reflect the very best of Southern Literature.
