CITY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING
JUNE 9, 2004
The Jackson, Tennessee City Council met for a called budget meeting at 9:00 a.m. on June 9, 2004, in the George A. Smith Meeting Room at City Hall with Mayor Charles Farmer and Council members John Bannister; Charles “Pepper” Bray; Ernest Brooks, II; Harvey Buchanan; David Cisco; Johnny Lee Dodd; Maurice Hays; Gerry Neese; and Charles Rahm present. Also present was Toni Ross, recorder of the minutes.
Council member Maurice Hays gave the invocation and led the audience in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The purpose of the meeting was to examine the 2004-2005 budget.
Department heads gave summaries of their budget proposals and answered questions from City Council members.
On the motion of Council member Rahm, seconded by Council member Brooks, the operating budget ordinance for the 2004-2005 fiscal year was unanimously approved on first reading.
On the motion of Council member Cisco, seconded by Council member Dodd, the tax rate ordinance setting the property tax rate at $2.22 per $100 assessed valuation was unanimously approved on first reading.
On the motion of Council member Hays, seconded by Council member Rahm, the capital budget ordinance for the 2004-2005 fiscal year was unanimously approved on first reading.
Council member Bray made a motion to appoint Cornelia Tiller to the Jackson Madison County School Board’s Bi-Racial Committee. The motion was seconded by Council member Cisco and was unanimously approved.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
