City Council Meeting Minutes

CITY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING
JUNE 20, 2002 - 1:30 P.M.
The Jackson, Tennessee City Council met for a called budget meeting at 1:30 p.m., June 20, 2002, in the George A. Smith Meeting Room at City Hall with Council members John Bannister, Charles "Pepper" Bray, Harvey Buchanan, David Cisco, Johnny Lee Dodd, Maurice Hays, Kenny Holt, Jessie Jacox and James E. Wolfe, Jr. present. Also present was Anita Brooks, recorder of the minutes.
Council member Maurice Hays gave the invocation and led the audience in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The purpose of the meeting was to examine the 2002-2003 budget.
Department heads gave summaries of their budget proposals and answered questions from City Council members.
On the motion of Council member Cisco, seconded by Council member Jacox, unanimous approval was given to increase the mayor's salary by 15%, effective July 2003.
On the motion of Council member Buchanan, seconded by Council member Jacox, the ordinance to set the property tax rate at $1.98 per $100 assessed budget was unanimously approved on first reading.
On the motion of Council member Wolfe, seconded by Council member Dodd, the ordinance to adopt the 2002-2003 budget was approved on first reading by a 8-1 vote with Council member Buchanan voting nay.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
