Chipping of the Greens
Chipping of the Greens is a recycling program for discarded Christmas trees. Recycling Christmas trees helps save space in landfills, provides free mulch and reminds the public of our solid-waste management problem. The idea was started in Jackson in 1981.
Keep Jackson Beautiful will be accepting trees at drop-off locations in North and South Jackson until the Thursday before the second Saturday . The North Jackson drop-off sites are the Parking lot on Stonebridge of Liberty Garden and at North Park in the first parking lot as you enter park. The South Jackson drop-off location is 720 S. Highland at the Jackson City Fire Department Administrative Office in front of the Jackson Fairgrounds. You may also call 731.425.8578 until the Thursday before the second Saturday for curbside pickup of your Christmas tree. On the second Saturday of January from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Fire Training Station, Keep Jackson Beautiful Members and Master Gardener volunteers will provide the manpower to turn your old tree into wood chips perfect for garden pathways or for composting. The wood chips will be bagged and available for pickup by the public at no charge on the day of the chipping. Only live trees are accepted. Lights and ornaments should be removed so that trees can be fed through the chipping machine.
