Transportation Improvement Program – TIP

The Transportation Improvement Program or TIP is a federally required four year program of the planned transportation improvements in Jackson and Madison County that are either federally funded or viewed as regionally significant. The current TIP covers federal fiscal years 2017 – 2020. The new TIP was adopted by the MPO Executive Board on December 1, 2016 after a required public hearing at the same meeting:

TIP UPDATES: The TIP is updated periodically to reflect current project information and/or to add new projects by one of two methods:


Major revisions and/or additions of new projects are designated as amendments requiring a public hearing and legislative review. This includes review and a final determination by the MPO Executive Board of elected officials, including the mayors of Jackson and Madison County.


Minor revisions and more routine maintenance of the TIP, within parameters established by federal and state law, are designated as administrative adjustments which TDOT staff and/or the MPO staff may initiate as warranted to keep project information up to date.

Jackson Area MPO – FY2020-2023 TIP – REVIEW DRAFT 6-19
The MPO has begun work on a new TIP to cover federal fiscal years 2020 to 2023 (October 2019 – September 2023). The lengthy development and review process includes TDOT, FHWA, and FTA as well as public meetings and a hearing by the MPO Executive Board. The public hearing will be scheduled later in 2019, likely in October. The current working draft is posted here for public reference. All information is subject to change. Periodic updates will be made as the draft is revised.
