STREET MAINTENANCE

  • Street Surface Repairs
City streets are checked regularly for damages and are repaired as soon as possible.

  • Pothole Repairs
Potholes should be reported to the City Services Hotline by calling 425-CITY.
  • Street Sweeping of Curb and Gutter Streets
Downtown streets are cleaned twice a week and state routes once a week and arterial and collector streets once per month. Residential streets are swept following a pre-determined route that allow most residential streets to be cleaned 3 times a year.
  • Snow and Ice Removal
Winter icing or snow events are monitored closely for the safety of our motoring citizens. The Department operates four snowplow/salt spreader trucks and two smaller salt spreader trucks. These 6 units operate a predetermined snow route at first warning of a snow or ice event.

ALLEY MAINTENANCE

  • Alley surface repairs - City alleys are checked regularly for damages and are repaired as soon as possible.
  • Pothole repairs - Potholes should be reported to the City Services Hotline by calling 425-CITY.
  • Cleaning and clearing of vegetation over hanging or encroaching on right-of-way.

RIGHT-OF-WAY MAINTENANCE (ROW)

  • Removal of sight obstructions.
  • Mowing, spraying herbicides and cutting back over-hanging vegetation - Tractors mow the right-of-way during the growing season. These drivers follow a mowing route from April through September.
  • Hazardous tree evaluation.
  • Repair or replacement of driveway entrances at property owners' request.

SIDEWALKS

  • Administration of City of Jackson's Sidewalk Ordinance - Citizens who need sidewalk repair should call 424-CITY or you may submit a request electronically.

STORMWATER DRAINAGE

  • Administration of City of Jackson's ditch policy.
  • Maintenance of stormwater ditches for proper water flow - Citizens who are experiencing drainage problems should call 425-CITY or you may submit a request electronically.
  • Repair and maintenance of city stormwater drainage structures - Maintenance crews routinely inspect inlets and ditches.
  • Repair and maintenance of curbs and gutters.

LOOSE LEAF REMOVAL - SEASONAL

  • Loose leaves are picked up beginning no later than the first Monday after Thanksgiving through March 15 by leaf vacuums. Street Department crews follow a street route and will pick up at least twice on each street.
  • Loose leaves raked into city alleys will not be picked up. Our leaf vaccuums and pull trucks require room to manueuver, and all our alleys are very narrow and restrictive. We, therefore, request city residents to not rake their loose leaves to the alley side of their property but rather to the street side for routine pickup.
  • Bagged leaves when placed at the curb are considered yard debris and will be routinely picked up by Waste Management.
  • We are not able to leave a route to honor individual pickup requests since each Street Department leaf collection crew is dedicated to a specific route and we have no additional resources. Thank you for being patient and we will pick up your leaves as soon as possible.

TRASH PICKUP

  • Waste Management picks up trash piles in residential areas. Please call 425-CITY to report trash at the curb.
