The City of Jackson received a state grant to develop the farmers' market in May 1991 and opened in 1992. Located in downtown Jackson, The West Tennessee Farmers' Market has become a catalyst for other downtown renovation. Today, the market includes two truckers' sheds, an office complex, two retail buildings, an outdoor plaza with benches and decorative lighting, new landscaping with a Yoshino cherry grove, and new streets. Its retail buildings house produce, crafts and services, like custom sewing and a shoeshine stand.

The Farmers' Market hosts special events throughout the year and is available for rent from the farmer vendor spaces and retail building spaces to the use of the entire facility for Shannon Street Festivals. Operating hours for the sheds: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday - Saturday. Retail Building hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. year round Monday - Friday. For more information, call Felix Fly or Linnie Todd at 425-8308.
