Visit the place where railroad history was made. A place where politicians gave "whistle-stop" campaign speeches and Jackson's hometown heroes left for war. The Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Depot, built in 1907, was designed to complement nearby Lancaster Park with its beautiful gardens, mineral wells, baseball park, and fairgrounds. The City of Jackson restored the Depot into a museum as a lasting tribute to the impact of the railroads on the growth of Jackson and Madison County, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The museum houses a permanent collection that includes photographs, artifacts, and related memorabilia associated with railroad and local history. Also located on the grounds are exhibit and meeting rooms, a dining car, and two cabooses. An elaborate working scale model exhibit, built a maintained by the Jackson Model Railroad Club, operates Wednesday and Saturday. Museum hours are: Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 3 PM and by appointment.
The railroad depot museum is free. The facility is available for rental. Children's birthday parties are a favorite. For more information, call (731)425-8223.
