HOME REPAIR SCAM
Someone knocks at your door and says he's in the neighborhood doing home repairs and has some leftover material. He offers you a big discount. It may be to repair your roof or resurface your driveway. Sometimes the service offered may even be completely unnecessary. But you want to save money, and you figure that if your neighbor trusts him, you can, too.

The work is quickly done, with cheap materials that often do more harms than good. (Or, in some cases, the workmen only lay out their tools and equipment to look as though they're starting work.) After they have your money, they run off, and you realize you've just been taken.

TIP: Deal with reputable-and preferably, local-firms. If you have a problem or complaint later on, you'll know.
