Criminal Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Jackson Police Department is comprised of the Violent Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Auto Crimes Unit, Fraud/Financial Crimes Unit, Preliminary Investigation Activities Unit, and the Property/Evidence & Fingerprint/Identification Unit. Crime Stoppers, the Metro Narcotics Unit and the School Resource Officer Program are also under the supervision of the CID Commander.
The Violent Crimes Unit is responsible for the investigation of crimes involving injury or threat of injury to persons. This includes homicides, suicides, rapes, robberies and assaults as well as handling child and adult abuse and neglect investigations. These investigators also conduct internal affairs investigations and investigations into officer involved shootings.
The Property Crimes Unit investigates burglaries, arsons, shoplifting, vandalism and other crimes involving theft of or damage to personal property.
The Auto Crimes Unit investigates vehicle thefts, vehicle burglaries, vehicle arsons, and theft of vehicle parts and accessories.
The Fraud/Financial Crimes Unit conducts investigations into forgeries, employee thefts, counterfeiting and fraud cases. Link now for more information and listings of:
The Preliminary Investigation Activities Unit conducts initial follow-up investigations on cases referred to them by other units. They also handle walk-in cases, most misdemeanor cases and some felonies as agreed to by the CID Commander.
The Property/Evidence & Fingerprint/Identification Unit is responsible for the storing of all evidence and found property kept by the Jackson Police Department. They also examine, classify, identify and file fingerprints taken from prisoners and evidence. Additionally they process evidence brought in from crime scenes.
Crime Stoppers is a vital part of the investigative team of the Jackson Police Department. Many times, tipsters have provided information that was very instrumental in the successful resolution of a case.
Metro Narcotics is staffed by officers from the Jackson Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Their primary focus is on street level dealing and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
