What Can Parents Do?

  1. First and foremost - Do not deny that your child could get drug and/or gang involved!
  2. Educate yourself and your child about the risks and dangers of drug and gang involvement
  3. Make your home rules clear and concise and enforce them consistently
  4. Know who your child is with, where they are going, and what they are doing
  5. Know where their money, clothes, and other stuff comes from
  6. Minimize their TV time, restrict violent shows
  7. If you have guns, deny them access
  8. Get involved with your child's school
  9. Meet, greet, and know who their friends are
  10. Meet, greet, and introduce yourself to the parents of their friends
  11. Require positive, constructive activities of and for your child
  12. Know the signs of gang mentality/activities to look for; ask questions and take action when necessary
