COMBAT AUTO THEFT
Combat Auto Theft, join Jackson Police Department's C.A.T. Program.
The Combat Auto Theft Program is being offered by the Jackson Police Department free to Jackson and Madison County residents as another step in the fight against crime. Other cities using the C.A.T. program have seen a 10-15% drop in actual auto thefts. Just seeing the decal on the window is a deterrent to some would-be thieves.
Here's how the C.A.T. program works:
Drive your car to the Jackson Police Department located in the Law Enforcement Complex at 234 Institute Street, to have it registered. It's best to call 425-8469 ahead of time for an appointment. You will be asked to list the names, ages and drivers' licenses of those who drive your car, and how you can be reached if your car is stopped by police officers.
The Police Department will put a fluorescent decal on your car's left rear window and small sticker on the middle front windshield.
Later, if a police officer sees your car on the road between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., he or she will stop your car. If the driver is not on your approved list, you will be notified and will help the officer decide if the driver should be arrested.
You can add or drop names to your approved drivers' list by calling the Police Department. You also must call if your tag number of address changes.
It is important to explain the C.A.T. program to anyone that drives your car at night.
You must turn in the decal if you sell your car.
