Aviation Unit

The Aviation Unit provides air support to all ground based units providing public safety services to the citizens of Jackson, Tennessee. This support shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Patrol Operations
  • Tactical Support
  • Search and Rescue
  • Critical Incident Observations
  • Surveillance
  • Transportation
  • Aerial Photography
  • Training Support
  • Fire Suppression Support
  • Enforcement of state statutes related to aviation safety

Other Operations at the direction of the Chief of Police or his designee, consistent with the Federal limitations on "Public Use Aircraft."

Additionally, the Aviation Unit may provide, when resources are available and upon request, air support to other law enforcement agencies within the scope of any mutual aid agreements or during emergency situations.

Mission pilots with fulfill their missions cognizant of the acoustical signature of the aircraft and the sensitivity of some citizens to helicopter noise levels.

Organizational Structure

The Aviation Unit consists of: Chief of Police, Unit Commander, Chief Pilot, Mission Pilots, Observers, Safety Officer, and Maintenance Officer.
