David D. Dillingham currently serves as Deputy Fire Chief which includes supervision over Operation, Prevention, Public Education and Training divisions within the department. A position he assumed in 2008. A graduate from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Officer Program, and he holds certifications as a Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I & II, FEMA Instructor, Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector (in both NFPA and ICC), Hazardous Material Technician and Emergency Medical Technician.
Deputy Chief Dillingham started his fire service career in 1975 with the Waverly Fire Department, Waverly Tennessee. Formerly, the Fire Chief of City of Selmer for eight years where his department, in 2001, received Tennessee Mutual League’s award for the Most Improved Fire Department within State of Tennessee. Was a member of Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association Board of Directors from 2005 – 2011. Still serves as a member of Tennessee Fire Chief’s Legislative Committee.
Deputy Chief Dillingham has earned a Master of Science degree in Management from Troy University, Troy, Alabama. He holds an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Drury College Springfield, Missouri.
Deputy Chief Dillingham’s service to our country began as a member of the US Army in 1978 and ended when he retired as a First Sergeant, E-8 in 1998. His military awards and decorations include 3 Meritorious Service Medals, 3 Army Commendation Medals, 8 Army Achievement Medals, 6 Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. He also been awarded Air Assault Wings, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and a Meritorious Unit Citation.
He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a Paul Harris Fellow member of Old Hickory Rotary Club.
