City Court
Arraignment & Bail

101 East Lafayette
Jackson, TN 38301
(731) 425-8292

ARRAIGNMENT
Arraignment is the initial appearance before the judge where the judge advises the defendant of his rights and reads the warrant to the defendant.

Arraignment takes place in Jackson City Court, Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. On Saturdays, the judge sets bail at 8:30 a.m.; however, those who make bail are not formally arraigned until the following Monday. If the individual has made bail over the weekend, the arraignment will take place at 8:00 a.m. the following Monday at City Court at 101 East Lafayette (Map).

BAIL
Bail is to be set no higher than necessary to assure the defendant's appearance in court. In some cases, the judge may also consider the defendant's prior record and the likelihood that the defendant will post a risk of danger to the community. When the amount of bond is set, the defendant has the following options:

1. You can put up cash for your bond. Example: $500 bond - have someone bring $500 to the Police Department and put it up as bond. When you go to Court, you can use it as your fine and court cost, and/or get some of it back depending on the Courts disposition.

2. Use the services of an approved bonding company. The bonding companies can put up a bond for you to get out of jail. They all charge the same amount of money, 10% of the bond, plus $25.00. Example: $500 bond = $50 + $25 = $75 to the bonding company. You do not get anything back. The fines and costs, if any, are separate from the money you pay the bonding company.

You have your choice of a bonding company.
