NORTH HIGHLAND AVENUE (US 45/SR 5) AT DEADERICK STREET
Mayor Jerry Gist announced today that funding has been put into place for the re-design of the North Highland Avenue (US 45/SR 5) at Deaderick Street intersection. The city of Jackson recently pledged $824,000 of their allocated federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the design of an improved roundabout intersection at North Highland Avenue (US 45/SR 5) and Deaderick Street. The mayor is also pleased to announce that the Tennessee Department of Transportation has agreed to pledge $206,000 in matching funds to help improve safety along this important federal and state route.
“This is an important project for the continued redevelopment of our downtown area,” stated Mayor Gist. “This improved intersection design should not only improve safety by slowing traffic speeds, but will also serve as a gateway entering our beloved downtown, and help to connect downtown across this major highway” the mayor added.
The city of Jackson is locally managing this project on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The design of the project is expected to begin soon.
